Hi everyone, I have a Guild Polara from the 90s.

Trying to put back on the Gotoh bridge and can't get it to the point where the strings are raised above the fretboard.

I have the bridge itself, and two long screw pieces. I'm screwing those pieces into the bushings, then popping the bridge into place.

It's loose, but no way to tighten it.

Then when I string the guitar, the strings are touching the fretboard.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks! How far do I turn the thumbwheels/how far to raise the bridge?

And with what (tool), may I ask?

Thank you, do you know what the stock action would be on one of these? It's my first time setting up a guitar.

Typically manufacturers set up electric guitars to something like 4/64" (1.6 mm) on both bass and trebble side. It always depends on the radius of the fretboard and the players preference, so the strings do not rattle when playing. Hence the importance as shown in above 3 videos to always start with the truss rod setup before you adjust the bridge height.
Just to compare, on acoustic guitars you would use 5/64" to 6/64" on the bass side and 4/64" on the trebble side.
And that means low and high E-string at the 12th fret, distance between top of the fret and the underside of the string. A small automotive ruler helps a lot.
