Can anyone tell me whether the serial number, AI1284, was built in Hoboken vs Westerly. I understand this to be a '67 and know it was right about the time of the move. I also have heard that the "cheaper" guitars went first. Likely it can't be known. If that be the case, is there any difference between the last Hoboken F30 and the first Westerly?
Thanks,
Tom

I think Hobokens sound fairly different than Westerlys ... Hobokens tend to be more woody & airy, and sometimes physically lighter. I think the guitars from around 1968-72 (early Westerly) are somewhat of an in between vibe. One man’s opinion based on having owned and played a lot of each.

Hey Tom, like Dave said, Hans will know. Depending on his schedule and busyness he drops by but if you contact him at his website that Dave listed above you'll get an answer. Those are nice guitars in that era and either factory is gonna make a super nice guitar. We do love photos here, and it's never been easier to post them. You just drag them into your post and VOILA!! PHOTOS!!

I did contact Hans and he confirmed it to be Hoboken built. I purchased the guitar on Reverb and I'm awaiting delivery. Here are a few

You might be tempted to change the tuners. Please don't. They might not be the smoothest things in the world, but they work fine.

I only have one guitar with lousy tuners and it's my Taylor and a slot head to boot!! Adjusting the tension on them is nuts. They're either spinning freely like a top, or stopped dead still and tuning them you know you're gonna break the ivoroid buttons (which already happened once, but replaced free on warranty). I think I'll do what Kurt (I think?) said where you loosen them up and get the winder or the drill and just wind them for a long while and let them get worn in. That should help, huh? They're pretty but going from standard to an alternate tuning is a nightmare. WHY are they so awful???
