I still can't get my little brain around the custom shop serial numbers.

The Valencia on the ebay has a serial number of 9400020. What year does that correlate to?

Also, when did they start putting the custom shop sticker on the back of the headstock?

I'd really like to know more about the history of the Custom Shop.. Did it evolve out of the Fender Spring Hill shop? How many folks worked there? Who ran it (Tim Shaw?). What guitars did they make.. ? When? What are they doing now...?

I suspect this would all be in Book III... But I rather not wait.

That's a Valencia from the year 2000. The 'Custom Shop' marking on the back of the headstock was introduced during the year before.
