I think that I mentioned a while ago that I wasn't very fond of the tuners that came on my Guild 8 string Baritone.
Tried several suggestions about getting them to loosen up but nothing worked.
Time to replace them with smooth gears that will hold up to the big strings on a baritone.

It would be best, if they were drop in fit, if at all possible.

Well the search has ended for now.
I could not find any tuners that were exact drop in replacements for my 8 string Guild Baritone.
Grover Sta-tite are very close but the screw holes are slightly off.

I decided to trade a few of the Guild tuners positions on the headstock.
I put the two that are hard to turn and feel like they are grinding on the octave strings and put the octave tuners on the heavy strings.
This has made a lot of difference for the good.

Now my question is this.
There are two screws that could possibly be used to put more tension/friction on the tuners.
One is the screw that holds the gears together and the other is the small screw on the end of the button.
Does the button screw help with tension or are they only there for button removal?

Both. You remove the screw in the button in order to take off the button and washers. Tightening the screw increases the resistance.

If the button is too loose it can slip, too tight and it can be hard to turn.

I believe you're correct for sealed gear tuners however the OP's guitar has open gear tuners.

I would look at using Gotoh SE700 tuners.

Yes Bruce, it does.
I tried loosening the small screw on the end of the button and all that happened was the button started to come loose.
I tightened it back up and didn't notice any affect on the looseness of the tuner.
It appears that only the larger screw in the middle of the gear will affect the tightness of the gear.
