Cleaning out my parents basement I came across a Guild Guitar in its original case never used. Can someone shed some light on what the value might be? I attached a picture of the serial number. Also I have no paperwork to prove this but it is signed by George Strait. My uncle won it in a sweepstakes at a hardware store 20 years ago. Let me know if you need anymore pictures?

You have a D4-NT Mahogany. :)

The guitar is signed? Can you post a pic of that?

Also moving this to acoustics.

Also more pics would be helpful. Guitars generally don’t fare well being left in an attic for 20 years and condition is everything.

Welcome to LTG Pietor.. Nice find!
Bottom level Guild acoustic dreadnaught, like their US made entry level guitar, and often liked and used here on the LTG.
You can check Reverb for prices. I would not know if the George Straight signature would add anything to its value, that would depend on the buyer.

On Reverb they typically go any where from $500 to $800 depending on condition. Your parent's D4 could be unused so maybe toward the higher end, but I don't find any D4 being sold for more than $800 any where.

Thanks for the pix...

Not a high gloss model so again, most likely in the $600-700 range value wise.
I cannot speak to the artist sig and whether that would command a higher sales price.

Yup, definitely the mahogany top version! Looks pretty clean, too.

Just noticed that too GG, so I am adding another $100 :). I bet you could sell it for $800. But if it is me, and I got $800 earmarked for a Guild acoustic, I am going to try to find a D25 arched, which is technically the next dread model up in the Guild acoustic hierarchy. The D4 is the "no frills" version of a D25 arched back dread. However, yours has a what I consider to be rare hog top, typically not on these models. Very interesting.

Thank you for everyone's help information. Is Reverb the best platform to sell it? That is, if I don't take George's advice.
Right here is the best place to sell it in my opinion. However, I think (know) there are restrictions on selling here. I think you need a minimum of 10 posts, and it's a really good idea to donate a bit back to LTG. I assure you, I've sold a bunch of guitars, and this is the cheapest, no hassle way to sell them.........ESPECIALLY a Guild guitar. You've got thousands of Guild lovers right here. :)

Welcome Pietor. Cool find. Super nice looking. I personally love that signature on it. As with any used guitar you will likely get asked a few key questions regarding typical structural issues that may occur over time, regardless of cosmetic condition. I will give you a head start on the most common besides and obvious cracks that go through the wood.

Action: At the 12th fret (double dots) measure from the top of the metal fret wire to the bottom of the lowest (E) and highest (e) strings. Ideal action is (E) at 5-6/64 (3/32) inch and (e) at 4-5/64 (2-2.5/32) . If needed measure with a piece of cardboard then put that against a ruler.

Bridge/Saddle height: Right in front of the wooden bridge & plastic saddle where the strings come up from underneath the guitar, measure the height from the the guitar top surface to the bottom of one of the middle strings. It should be between 3/8 to 1/2 of an inch.

Neck angle: Lay a 2 ft ruler preferably or 1 ft ruler on its edge in the middle of the neck. Keeping it flat slide the ruler towards the wooden bridge and see where it hits. Ideally it will hit right at the top of the wooden bridge. Measure and/or take a picture if it hits lower or higher.

Best of luck with that cool looking Guild!

I kind of like it better this way. I wouldn't want a mahogany topped version, but satin finish with no frills does it for me. Very nice, and congrats Pietor.

Also, welcome to LTG!

Hello from Finland

Welcome to LTG - even if you do not play guitar - you mentioned that you do know something about sailboats - personally I'm not a sailor despite the fact that I served in Finnish Marine as navigator - but there are folks from all walks of life here - and many of them would like you to share your knoledge on sailboats.

Because - if you have time to go through many threads here - we love to veer - and come back 😍

I also have firm beilef that if you sell that guitar on this forum - with all good advices so far and plenty of pictures - not forgetting any nicks and possible faults - you will end up with decent price - and happy non-fuss-buyer 🎼
