Normally, one would say the missing serial number on the headstock might mean the guitar was stolen at some point and it was removed. But never so perfectly! That sure looks like it came from the factory like that.

But it really doesn't matter, that is a very cool guitar, and I'm guessing it sounds great!

I will add that circa '70 and '71 there were electric guitars that were supposed to have a serial label on the back of the control cavity cover that left the factory without it. Since there are a lot of things that date this instrument to '71 the absence of a label should not be a cause for concern.

Not sure what the "lot of things" are, it also could be a 1972 to me.

Regarding to date this guitar better: What are the datecodes on the 4 potentiometers?

Taking me too literally.

Since my recollection of the no sticker time period includes 1971 but might possibly include 1970 and 1972 my focus was on assigning the guitar to the no sticker period and not to a specific year. I could have been more precise but I chose not to since I don't know the bounds of the no sticker period well enough to use the absence of a sticker to date an instrument.

:)

I guess "raised eyebrows" like for "wondering".

So the pot codes don't help dating the guitar any further as they were all changed in or after 1993...
