Hi
I'm a new member - I just bought my first Guild archtop, a sunburst x-50 with a single coil pickup. I'd like to find out when it was built but the serial number is EA 518 and all the websites state that the x-50 was only built until 1969 and the highest number was 506. Could any one of you Guild mavens help me out?

By the way - it may have been Guild's cheapest archtop but I play swing blues and the guitar absolutely sings (and it doesn't feed back as much as my ES 125)!

Thanks

Pete :D

Welcome Pete, someone most likely Hans, will have the year for you.

As for the X-50 being Guild's cheapest, perhaps, but I'll own one one day too. I think they look awesome.

Hello Pete,

Your X-50 was built in 1970. The X-50 was discontinued during 1970 but that means that the model was no longer listed in the price list. Usually a model could be ordered as long as they had one in inventory or if an unfinished 'superstructures' was lying around.

Sincerely,

Thanks Hans. That explains it. And thanks for such speedy replies. I must say that I can feel encroaching Guild addiction - but at least I seem to be in good company. I've been playing guitar for more than 30 years and I've only just realised how cool Guilds are and it seems that you can still pick up the lesser-known models (like the X-50) for reasonable money (especially with the current USD/£ exchange rate).

Hi ellmo - I have an A-50 (1961) Cordoba and I know what you mean. Same guitar without the pickup, and for the "cheapest" model, this guitar is very well built and plays great. Very cool looking, and sounds just like an electric when playing solo notes.

You will enjoy it!
