Need GUILD pearl headstock inlay: I'm an amateur luthier, learning all I can. No plans to make a job of this. Its still fun and challenging. I have bought on Ebay for repair a GAD50. Not too bad for $77. Anyway since it was a salvage guitar, I guess, someone ground off the GUILD inlay on the peghead the 'G' below is still intact They also scratched off the serial #, which I knew prior to purchase. Anyway I want to see if there is someone that knows if that pearl inlay is available anywhere. Otherwise, I'll be learning how to make/cut inlay!

JR,
I think the headstock inlay is an overlay instead. You can tell if it is an inlay if the Guild logo that has been sanded off has a routing that the inlay sits in if not its an overlay. Look at my thread about the F212 and you can see an inlay routing. I know absolutely that the Blueridge uses an overlay which is a very thin headplate veneer with the pearl attached to it and a very thick finish covers it. You had asked in my thread about it I wasn't thinking about the GAD having that type of headplate. Perhaps you could get a decal somewhere with the Guild logo in white and try to preserve what is left of the overlay. Just curious could you post some pictures of the guitar I would like to see what you're doing. If you don't already have a service, i use Photobucket, which is a free web site to store pictures for downloading if you have a digital camera or pictures on your computer. There are others but I like Photobucket.

These are pictures of the GAD50 I bought on Ebay for $77 as a project guitar. Don't know what I'm going to do with it when done. Mission is to learn to repair instruments. This is project #4. Not sure why the headstock Guild rafter was ground off, guessing this is an insurance salvage guitar. I have found some MOP veneer material to make a replacement with. I plan to make a template from pictures and match to the remaining traces of the Guild rafter. The main concern is what would be the best glue for cracks. At this point I'm planning to use Tightbond to hold it together, use small maple cleats to reinforce and fill the cracks / finish with superglue after staining the cracks to match the surrounding area. Hopefully after leveling the SG fill, wet sand with 1000/1500/2000 and buff as this is supposed to be a polyurethane (polyester) top coat and I probably can't use lacquer to touch up / refinish the damaged areas.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!
