Has anyone cut up a set of 18-1 Sta-Tites to fit on an old Guild 12?

It looks feasible to me. Anyone already done this, or am I sailing towards the edge of the earth on my own?

Haven't done this, but a few years ago I used my Dremel to cut up a set of 18:1 classical tuners to fit an older European classical guitar with odd tuner hole spacings, which no contemporarily made tuners matched.

It took a bit of finessing -- I used leather washers to secure and hold down the exposed cut edges, which not only worked effectively, but actually look pretty good.

I risked ruining a set of brand new tuners, but I'm glad I gave it a shot -- they work just fine, and are a vast improvement over the original tuners.

Good luck!

Have you seen these Gotoh SE701 '6-per-side' tuners?https://www.allparts.com/products/tk-7786-gotoh-se701-open-gear-6-in-line-keys
You need a left and right hand set for a 12-string.

I'm pretty sure these are the tuners with a common locating screw between 2 tuners that were first used on the New Hartford Guild 12-strings and Cordoba Guild has continued using them.

I recommended them for a 12-string restoration on a different forum and the OP bought them direct from Cordoba Guild.

I looked at the Gotohs. They are 15:1. There are also direct-fit replacements....also 15:1.

I like 18:1
