I had my fill of old Harmonys & Kay’s back in the ‘70s. I’d buy them super cheap & fix them up to trade up - quite often for a Guild. The sight of them these days triggers some sort of PTSD, but out of curiosity, I did pick up & play a Baxendale conversion about four months ago. Very nicely done in terms of build quality, but the overall tone of this particular example did not move me much - it remained a bit too boxy. Can’t recall which brand or model it was he’d converted, but again, impressive workmanship.

I like the ladder-braced sound. It's very barky: lots of initial punch but then notes die off quicker than with a typical X-braced guitar. Back in the pre-WWW universe Elderly Instruments frequently had Gibson LG-0s & LG-1s in stock. They still turn up occasionally. Great little guitars.

Had a 60s LG-1 for a few years, actually have had a few Sovereigns that I liked better.
