To the Americans who celebrate. From my backyard I can see fireworks from 4 of the big hotels on The Strip. However, it's HOT outside and I've seen fireworks before. Keep your pets and animals safe!!

I'll just leave this right here.....

Keep them fingers - unless you like to only watch your gidfiddles.

Merry 4th 🐾 🍺 🎂

Yep, burgers and dogs are on the menu today. American cuisine at its finest.

On the 3rd I did my annual kayak gathering on the Severn River just north of Annapolis w/ 10+ friends I grew up w/. There's a 150 yr old gated community named Sherwood Forest that puts on an amazing fireworks display. Over 500 boats anchor for the festivities every 3rd as there's a non competition clause w/ the City of Annapolis fireworks on the 4th.

I lugged out a propane tank, burner, pots and everything for a big fish fry on the shore of the river before it got dark. Made beer battered cod fillets, hush puppies drizzled w/ honey from a friend's bee hives, potato wedges, and Cole slaw. It was fantastic!! We didn't get off the river until after midnight. Lots of beer, old tales, and nonstop laughs.

My invitation must have gotten lost in the mail.

^ you're penciled in for next year. 😉

And historically, I'm actually more in favor of celebrating July 2nd. The signing on the 4th was by far the easiest part. Getting the vote to pass unanimously on the 2nd was the official benchmark....and it didn't come easy with several southern colonies that were still strongholds of the crown.

If I had my way, we'd get off work for a 3 day holiday from the 2nd till the 4th! 🇺🇸😎🇺🇸

Yesterday, my band did my favorite gig of the year, a set at the Northport VA hospital's assisted living for a bunch of veterans in wheelchairs. They were all so appreciative, and it always makes me feel good to give back a little to our service members.

I'd seen friends and fellow LTGers complaints about the 4th's craziness going on far past the actual date. Yesterday (7/7) I heard a barrage of fireworks set off down the street at 9 am. I guess just cleaning up leftovers? Good grief. Then today I see this....

My brother is in England with his wife’s family this year. I encouraged him to walk the streets asking people “When do the fireworks start?”.

I hope you all had a great 4th. Mine was lovely. First playing (trumpet) at a concert in Concord, MA in the afternoon. Then, otherwise, hanging with my pups at mi casa.

Here I am, sporting my 45-year-old USAFA cadet chapeau (I didn’t put this in the hats thread, but I should’ve). This is pre-concert, as I was just heading out to play. Cheers everyone. Off we go (into the wild blue yonder)...

Happy Independence Day to my US friends!

No fireworks or concerts or even BBQ for me yet, but still hopeful for the weekend.
