I bought a '67 Mark IV from Jay Pilzer - Brazilian RW back, for sure, and sides that look similar to your D50. They look sort of mahogany-ish to me as well, but Jay advertised the guitar as Brazilian, and he's far more knowledgeable than I.

I'll try to get some pics later today.

I may have put an end to this mystery or at least have an answer that I'd feel comfortable with relating as being reliable.

I took my Guild into a local luthier a few weeks ago (it's still there and I'm in withdrawal) and he thought that the back was rosewood and the sides were mahogany.

Then, when cruising another acoustic forum, I found a mention of Jay Pilzer at guildguy.com http://www.guildguy.com/ and emailed him with the photos. He was very prompt in replying (was up as late as I was!) and said the same thing - he believes the back is Indian rosewood and the sides are mahogany.

He's got some interesting Guild articles posted on the site, one of which deals with the woods Guild used.
