Had to leave Facebooks, just like I had to leave Twitter. LTG is my last social resting place...

And to think that only couple decades ago we had a book delivered free to every household. It had names, adresses, phone numbers. All set up nicely, so you could see which ones fit together.

It was called telephone directory 😂

And at the time (just like now) the phone company knew every call you made, to whom and for how long. But it didn't seem to bother anyone. I think the difference is that they didn't use the info for anything other than billing purposes (as far as we know.) I virtually certain they didn't share the information.

What frightens me today is not that my cell phone provider knows who I call or that online vendors know what I buy. What scares me is that there's a huge amount of information being stored about me and it's getting easier and easier to collate that information. Some of that information is private, but a lot of it I don't even consider private, like where I happen to be when traveling around in public, but it scares me that it's becoming possible to put all of that info together about me.

I suppose that's what separates us from youth that aren't frightened by all of this. They just don't see any reason for it to make them uncomfortable. Maybe they're right... to a degree.

Yeah, but... You could have an unlisted number and you could opt out of being included in the published directory (sometimes) and you could use a Post Office box instead of a street address...

But, as noted, it is robocalls and other unsolicited calls that drive the reluctance to share and not a real issue with privacy. If I trust you not to bother me or share my info with someone who will use it to bother me then you can have my number and my address :) But to get back to the topic, Facebook has not only failed to earn that trust but there is a lot of evidence that it violated that trust.

Yeah, but try to find someone now, without the good old phone book. Wait a minute, that's gonna cost you big time.

About the beginning of the month I realized that Facebook had become a time sink and a source of stress. The later is my own fault because I keep thinking I can fix stupid. So I decided to log in exactly once a day (as opposed to several times a day. Don't use it on a phone and logging in and out of sites is an old security habit) and not respond to anything. I would read posts, follow links, but I would not Comment nor React. I have more time and I am more relaxed. I note with amusement that no one seems to have noticed. I'll probably relax the non-participation but for the most part what I am interested is hobbies, events that I don't hear about otherwise and the occasional witty remark from a friend.
Well said and totally agree. Thank You
