Best of luck in the quest, Rob - I can definitely relate. Although I’d already been fortunate enough to acquire a few pieces, in 2015, I began a more serious quest to revisit a number of guitars I had owned in the ‘70s. I was not looking for the exact same instruments, but the same or similar models that matched tone or playability aspects which had become imbedded in my mind. It took the better part of four years, but eventually I got there - and everything about the journey was & remains satisfying. Keep after whatever you desire!

This request had been posted a few times at LTG already by Rob since back in 2008:

Hans knew about the search and is also looking for it for Rob:

I had a long running subscription to Vintage Guitar Magazine, and first came across Rob’s search there. I sadly will say, that given all the instruments I’ve sold or traded off since the ‘70s, I’ve never run into any of them a second time.

This is truly a needle-in-a-haystack situation, but on rare occasions, the needle does magically appear. My mind goes to John Lennon’s Gibson J-160e, which turned up in San Diego, iirc. You never know!

Yep. Or Randy Bachman's long-missing Gretsch:

I wouldn't be fit to pick up Randy's picks... ;]

There's a good thread idea. Most underrated guitarist. And a good candidate.
I first saw BTO around 1975 in a small town's ancient wooden-frame hockey rink in eastern Canada, which could not stand up to the band's volume and, as a result, all of the building's windows shattered. As a kid I thought that was spectacular. As an adult I realized it was why my parents didn't want me to have an electric guitar. But I didn't know how skilled Bachman was until I heard him playing BTO songs solo acoustic years later. Jaw-dropping good. Randy's a wonder.

I have discussed with Mr. Shulman the hunt for his old Guild, and I have to give him props for being relentlessly single-minded in his quest for this treasure from his past that obviously means so much to him. I believe I suggested he come here.

Me, however, would have just bought another one like it by now. I understand the "thrill of the hunt," but I'm afraid I don't have the patience (or time) to pursue an instrument the way he does. I wished him luck in finding the guitar.

Hi Rob,
I know it's not the exact one you're looking for but a close cousin is for sale on Reverb right now.
Question for those in the know: Were the Japanese tuners on this Reverb guitar installed as standard by Guild? Gibson briefly used these tuners as standard on a number of instruments in 1967. Just speculating that perhaps there was a shortage from normal suppliers for a period of time.

And as for the quest, personally, I'd buy a similar example & enjoy it's pleasures - while still continuing the quest!
