The electronics of my korean x 175 are giving me troubles . I suspect there is a bad solder joint somewhere because when I get it out of the case there is no sound after plugging in, if I shake the guitar a little there is sound for a while.

Should I just get this one issue repaired or would it be better to change all the pots and the switch for "higher end ones" also now that the guitar is already in the hands of a guitar tech ? (I'll never sell this guitar because I like it very much )

By the way : does anyone has experience with "adding" an out of phase sound/position with these guitars ?

Greetings, Denis

I believe there at least two plug connectors which are more likely to cause those symptoms than a bad solder joint.

As for repair or replace, the switch on my NS Aristocrat is a little sloppy in the middle position, but it doesn't bother me. The output jack seems fine. I haven't swapped the pots, so I really can't comment, but the guitar doesn't have the dull lifeless sound that I attribute to pots with low resistance, so I have felt no urge to replace them.

OTOH, very recently there was testimony here from someone that replaced the entire harness on a NS Starfire and reported that it made a huge improvement.

In the end, your tech is probably going to have to pull the entire wiring harness out to perform whatever repair is needed. Might as well have him install new, especially if you want to add a push-pull pot for phase switching.

This could be an output jack problem. Make sure the hex nut holding the jack in place is tight. Beyond that…what DTC says.
