Given that Guild made a few Starfire IV under fender ownership (i think)

Which from what you've seen play, feel better, is there any differences besides the pickups?

I thinking of selling my brand new 2003 Starfire IV and search for a late 90's one.

Would it be worthwhile or will i get it and say "this is the same only older"

Also because I bought mine new and it had just been sat in a shop the frets have got crap on them, I'd like to bring to back to a bright shine, the fretboard itself is perfect. Ppl suggest wirewool but surely you risk scratching the fretboard, isn't there a cloth+liquid solution here?

Thanks guys,
Joe

hey joe,
since you bought it new, isn't a cleaning and new setup a thing the shop you bought it is supposed to do???

don't know about the fender-built starfire quality, but my '91 westerly is outstanding.

They said it was recently setup, but i doubt it...

If people think their is a difference in feel, tone from the early modern ones i'll sell my and go for it.

If not i'll keep mine and spend some money on getting it seting, and playing nice.

For steel wool/fret cleanin, get 0000 steel wool. Cover the pickups with masking tape (so the wool flakes wont get into the pickups and make noise, honest), then brush the steel wool 20 times in one direction over the frets (Lightly!!), then 20 times in the other direction.

Good luck!
