Hey everybody! I'm Ken but you can call me K.J. .
I am obviously new here with this being my first post. I have been reading up on here as much as possible but cannot find an answer to my questions. I'm sure some of you GUILD GURUS will be able to help.
I am looking at possibly buying a Guild Sprint and am wondering if this model was indeed made here in the USA. The pictures that were sent to me show the neckplate but there is nothing on it.
I guess I'm just wondering if this is a knockoff or an overseas model.
Any insight on this would be awesome..Thanks in advance!! :D
These are the pics from the ad...sorry they are so small..can't seem to find the others he sent me at the moment.

Here they are......

Hello K.J.

Welcome! The photos aren't all that great but from what I can see it looks like it's all legit!
If you have a serial number, I could probably date it for you as well. At this point it looks like a 1986 model or something close to that.

Sincerely,

Thanks Hans !
I'll see if I can get him to send me the serial numbers and some better pics as well. :)
I guess I'm just used to seeing some stamping or engraving on the neckplate so it made me a bit leery.

Thanks to all for a warm welcome. :)
The serial number on the Sprint is.... HC101165.
Hans or anyone else, can you tell me what year this was made and where?
How about an approximate value as well.
Thanx!!

Hello K.J.

The guitar is from 1986 like I suspected and it was made in Westerly, R.I.

Great!
Thanks Hans!!
I am not all that familiar with other Guild models but, should there be a USA or Made in USA stamp or logo on it like other USA made guitars? Or was that their general practice back in '86 or even now?
Thanks again.

K.J.

Made in U.S.A. is stamped into the back of the headstock, next to the serial number. You will also find it on the Sprint.

That certainly is a Sprint. Those were Japanese or Korean bodies that were shipped here and assembled in the repair dept, with westerly necks mostly S-280 necks and such. Most of them were assembled by my friend Flip Scipio. I think I even put a few together along with doing repairs. I remember at least 80 of them. All in all a frikkin' nightmare, because the boss of Final assembly kept on not supplying all the parts that were needed . Needless to say that caused some friction with us in repair.

Wow!
Let me first start off by saying how cool it is to have someone on here who has worked for Guild in the plant. :D
Japanese or Korean huh? I'd be fine if the body was MIJ but the Korean......well lets just say I've got a Korean made Kramer Striker 100ST, that the body is made of plywood! LOL
It still plays real nice because of the neck and sounds OK..
I was hoping that the Sprint was ALL US made. Gotta say I'm a little disappointed.
It does closely resemble the Charvel Model 2 which I have as well. 8)
I'll still go check it out and we'll take it from there. Would it be safe to say that these are rare?
Thanks for your knowledge!!

Hey, WIW, I was a little surprised when you posted that the Sprints had import bodies. I've had a few of these and the bodies seemed to me to have the same feel and machining and finish qualities as the 1985-86 Aviators and Flyers of the same period.

However, I also had a 1987 Detonator, and its body had a different feel and a distinct sense of being of lower quality. This included a lack of let-in routes for the back plates, so that the plastic covers screwed onto the surface of the back of the guitar, a cheap trick that I don't recall seeing on any other Guild solid body model.

Is it possible that the Detonators were the import bodies, not the Sprints?

I really enjoy and appreciate your posts, and absolutely no offense is intended.
