Finally, my first Guild. The well worn red S-90 initially brought to our attention by FatherJones. No pics as yet, only a few minutes with this guitar. First thoughts:

- Yes, it's well used. But the pics I saw were unflattering. Looks better in person. Not bad at all. A quick polish and clean up made a big difference.

- It could maybe use a setup. The stock bridge is rather odd. The side screws stick up too far. Are individual saddles adjustable up and down? Would a tunomatic type offer any advantages? The action seems about right. I put on .11s, replacing the lighter ones that were on there. Big difference for the better. It plays well now, could be a bit better. So I'll see what my favorite guitar tech can do.

- Tonally, and in terms of vibe, this guitar is exactly as described by Fatha. The pickups are SWEET! All I can say is, it was worth the wait for an old Guild. Neck position especially sounds just wonderful. Pickups are well matched, loud and warm.

This guitar has personality. I've been guessing for years - without ever having one of these S-90s or S-100s to try - that these would be great guitars to own. And it turns out to be true. Two thumbs up!!

Those big thumb screws can feel like they get in the way, but you'll get used to it. No way to move the saddles up and down, just the entire bridge. A tunematic would give it a different feel. Tighter string tension probably, or so it is with my reissue S-100 v. the vintage ones.

FWIW I prefer the roller bridge. That thing is pretty badass. And, yes...pics, good sir, pics!

Congrats on your first Guild, Mad Dog. But you know what that means, don't you? You've now been initiated into the "what have you done for me lately?" club. Your first Guild will beget the need to get a second Guild, and so on and so one. Enjoy this one, it won't be your only.

And if anyone else wants to be like Mad Dog, there's another red S-90 on ebay right now:

Just throwin' it out there.

Pics soon, everyone. Me, I'm enabling myself, right into genteel, melodious poverty. Now, with a long-awaited Guild in hand, I'm hoping they revoke my parole and get me off the street for a while ...
