Hi All,

I'm new here and hoping you may be able to help me out with a query. I've been playing guitar on and off for quite a few years and recently have got interested in trying to improve my playing and learn some jazz guitar. I find short-scale guitars comfortable to play and it has been suggested on another forum that a Guild M-65 Freshman 3/4 may be a good short-scale jazz guitar for me... So, I was wondering whether:

1. Anyone who owns one of these can give me an idea of whether they are suitable for getting a nice clean jazz tone? What styles of music do you use yours for?

2. Can anyone tell me a little about the neck profiles of these and whether they varied over the years? I understand that the M-65 was released between the 50's and 70's... I'm more into thinner necks than the chunky 50's style neck.

I live in Australia and don't really have a chance of getting hold of one here. So if I decide to get one I'll probably have to buy one over the internet without getting a chance to play it. That's why I was hoping to get a bit of feedback from all you who are "in the know" before I take the plunge.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Regards

Marcus

Hi Marcus; can't answer your question but several members either own or have owned them ... maybe they can help. We have a kiwi member here who has pointed out how expensive US-made guitars are where you live ... he's taught us to call it 'Ozzyland' ... I'm sure he means it in a complimentary way  Good luck! J

Absolutely right there... American-made guitars are very expensive here unless the AUS dollar is strong which it hasn't been for a while. By the way, I can assure you that your kiwi member probably has very little to say about our country that is complimentary  we have a wonderful love-hate relationship depending on who won the last international sporting encounter (cricket, rugby league, rugby union... hmmm, none of these probably make much sense to the majority of LTG members). Good to know that there's a fellow southern hemisphere member in the mix...

Oy! :D
Welcome to the site. I've owned an older M65 with a Franz pickup and would be happy to pass along anything you'd like to know within my limited abilities.

Hi Guitarslinger,
Thanks for your response. Could you please tell me the year your guitar was made and how you find the neck profile. What style of music do you use it for?
Cheers
Marcus
