This was posted over at the AGF:

Dear friends,
help me identify the model of this Guild guitar. The label was missing
since the day i bought it from a friend who bought it from another ...
17" lower bout , B & S probably maple , pardon me for the not so good quality of pics.

Thanks.

My first guess (I could be totally wrong, since I don't have my copy of Hans' book here) was an early F-50, based on: 17" jumbo with maple b/s, with a rectangular label (you can see glue remnant) and solid block pearl fret markers. I have never seen maple b/s stained that color, though. Did early F-50s have flat braced backs (I know recent F-50Rs do... but the F-50s I have seen have unbraced, arched backs).

What do you all think?

Just e-mailed a friend of mine in the US who had some doubts:

Your first hunch was a good one! That's a copy (but a copy is not the right word) of a Guild guitar.
It's the typical mix of features from different Guild models not uncommon on instruments that were manufactured in the Far East during the '70s.

Instruments like these were sold in Asia and not imported in the US for obvious reasons; you would not be able to get away with it.

It's fun looking at these though. Almost every detail is 'sort of' wrong!

Cheers! Hans

Thx, Hans... I have seen several "lawsuit" copies before... but this is the first "copy" that actually said "Guild" on the headstock.

I thought that Guilds were stamped on the back of the headstock with the serial number.
My money is on Hans and it's a copy.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
Nice compliment (albeit unintended) paid to the 70's Guild Jumbo.
