Hello all. I've been browsing the site for information and just made an account to ask a question. I hear this is the best place for technical info about all things Guild.

I am thinking about buying a use GAD 30 guitar mail order and I can't find enough specification info for the neck. I know it has a 1.75" nut and it's 25.5" scale". But I'd like to know the profile depth of the neck. Is it super skinny? If anyone happens to have a caliper and would care to measure the depth at the 1st and 12th frets, you have my thanks in advance!

I like the sound of the guitar in video clips but my hands have problems with necks that are too thin. Well, only my left hand does!

Thank you!

Welcome . . . I'm sure someone who actually has that model will be along to help you answer that question.

I had one once, no longer so can't measure. But from my memory, it was a fairly slim profile neck. I remember because I liked it, and I like slim profile necks. So something like Martin's modified low oval, for example. Maybe not quite that slim, but close. Hopefully someone can chime in with the guitar in hand and measurement capabilities. Great guitar though, was surprised at how good it sounded for the price.

GAD30 is going to be a 1 3/4” nut width. Great for fingerpicking. I just played one at Morrison guitar shop in Rockwall TX the other day. Great little guits.

Sorry just saw you were looking at profile not but width. It’s fairly slim.

I have a GAD30R. I assume the neck is the same on the GAD30. Here are the measurements. Both were taken with the caliper on the fretboard, strings removed, immediately adjacent to the fret on the headstock side:

1st fret: 0.75"
12th fret: 1.09" NOTE: The 12th fret is where the neck starts to blend into the heel. The measurement is 1.01" just after the 11th fret.

Thanks so much Jim! Thanks exactly what I was looking for. The neck starts out quite thin and gets much thicker up the neck.

Yes. I have found that I like the combination of a 1-3/4" nut and a thin neck. I never liked thin necks before but that was on guitars with 1-1-11/16" nuts.
