I recently purchased a new rosewood F-512 (Oxnard)
I previously owned another F-512 (which I foolishly sold) which I purchased new in 1979 ( Westerly RI) and I am sure the depth (lower bout) on that one was 5 inches.
The depth on my new one however 4 1/2 inches which is a considerable change. Also the Oxnard is much lighter in weight and it seems that it is more than the single truss rod replacing the double, the new scalloped bracing
and the rosewood bridge replacing ebony that are at play here. To my ear the Oxnard also produces stronger trebles while maintaining all the power in the bass region.
.Does anyone know when these changes were made or was an evolutionary process through the guild changes in ownership? Either way I think Oxnard are doing a great job with this model.

Freddy, to my knowledge, the transformation back to lighter/earlier specs for the jumbo bodies started taking place in Tacoma. New Hartford and now Oxnard have continued that journey.

My Tacoma 2006 F-512 still has the dual truss rods, but the single rod transition happened sometime in 2007 (I think), and many other weight reduction items have changed since.

Welcome aboard, and I hope you enjoy that F-512. I am looking forward to trying an Oxnard-built one one of these days.

Thanks for that Chazmo. The changes were much earlier than I had thought.

Welcome to the boards, Freddy. Yeah - after the move to Oxnard, Guild is definitely back!

Welome aboard! Good to get some feedback on the Oxnard incarnation of the F512. I haven't run across one yet, but I'm looking forward to checking one out.

I know the Westerly and New Hartford versions, both great instruments.

Yes, Guild appears to have maintained their legendary consistency throughout their several owners and factory locations. :encouragement:

I measured every F412 and F512 I owned going back to a 1981 model. The deepest was 4 5/8" outside to outside at the lower bout, and the most the depth varied was by 1/4".

Never paid much attention after that. Could we consider that its more a case of the sound of the instrument dictating the construction rather that the other way around?
