Seriously though since the question's still about DV6's you haven't even gone off topic.
Westerly DV series instruments used selected aged wood and construction techniques (bracing most likely) intended to create an instrument which had a "vintage" sound when new. Tacoma also produced DV6's but I can't recall seeing any specifics about what if any changes were made or special techniques were used in the construction.
Current DV6's are made in Mexico. I recall reading a reference about the finish being poly-urethane rather than nitrcellulose laquer. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that one). There are conflicting opinions about the ability of polyurethane to improve tone as it ages the way nitrocellulose will. The majority viewpoint is that "poly" is superior in durability but inferior in tonal quality. There is also some concern about the build control in the Mexican made guitars, especilaly when compared with a Westerly made instrument.
Here's a recent thread about one person's experience with a new DV6:

Granted one instrument should not be used as the standard of judgement for Mexican made instruments, but since you asked the question I was sure that thread would give a lot of insights. It's why we're really here, right? 8)
