Joe, if I had that gorgeous guitar, I would take a lot of breaks, too. :p

nestboxes?
You have a good eye!

I make nesting boxes for a number of different species of cavity nesting birds, as part of an Audubon program that I started almost ten years ago.
We received a grant from the state Audubon office initially to make the boxes as an educational tool to increase awareness of the need to provide for cavity nesters that are displaced by starlings and House Sparrows. We're a non-profit .org so education is the primary focus of the boxes.
We also provide them in kit form for kids to put together at several events around town.
I've made and sold over 500 boxes and that first grant was all the seed money we needed. They're big sellers!

Thanks for the platform,
Joe

Good on ya, Joe. I can truly appreciate what you're doing (over 500 boxes?!!)

I built three Peterson BB boxes for our property a few years back -- mostly because I was tempted (& somewhat challenged) by its design. Interestingly only the purchased, Gilbertson PVC is ever occupied by bluebirds, but I expect the chickadees to raise a brood or two in the others -- as usual.

Thanks.
I make one box that is specifically designed for Violet-green Swallows. It's pretty neat and catches a few eyes with its horizontal layout and diamond-shaped opening. 8)

I missed those, too, because of the guitar. I used to belong to the Minnesota Waterfowl Association and we made wood duck houses that looked similiar what you have there. Used to have the kits at the Minneapolis Sportshow and we'd have kids build 'em and they could take them home with them. Great way to get the kids involved in conservation.

Here's one of my Wood Duck boxes in action.

Notice the handy carrying handle for trudging through the slog; and the side panel that slides up to monitor the nest.
We've had nesting Hooded Mergansers and Saw-whet Owls in these boxes, too.
It's always a real kick to be on top of an orchard ladder and lift the panels and look into the big eyes of a couple or more owlets!!

Too much fun,
