Just got one. Almost excellent condition. $625 with hard case. Good deal? Any background on that particular model?

Yeah, I'd say that's a good deal for one in excellent condition, especially judging by the crop currently on reverb. You see these priced all over the place, mostly higher than that!

Congrats on finding a great guitar at a great price. My '76 D25M has been going strong for 42 years now.

Some (I) believe that this guitar has such a deep tone because of the arched back. The bridge and fingerboard are most likely Brazilian rosewood. Mine likes D'Addario Phosphor Bronze EJ-19's.

Congrats! That does sound like a good price for your guitar. I like D'Addario light-gauge phosphor bronze strings on mine.

I view the archback D-25M as sort of a happy accident. Guild was presumably intending to build an economical student-grade guitar, but ended up building an excellent instrument at a very favorable price point.

They've been a "gateway drug" for many LTG members . . .

Very cool choice for a guitar, regardless of common age/wear issues. Price point isn't changing much on these, still like maybe the best kept secret in acoustic guitars.

Post pics, I'd like to see it ;]

If I were needing an acoustic in a gigging band situation, one would be at the top of my list. If I came upon a deal like that I'd snap it up. It would also be a great thing to hone one's lutherie skills on. Well worth spending your time on.

Which arch-back steel string acoustic Guilds from the 70's are full mahogany?

1973/1974 D-25

-from 68-73 D-25 is full mahogany top with a flat back
-74 and later is spruce top with arched back D-25
-73-74 was the transition...as such, this period still has the mahogany top, but with arched back D-25- this version was also made in 80s and 90s called D-15

Here's an arch-back near me that appears to be mahogony topped. Just posted.

Glenn

Hello Glenn,

That's a very late '70s or maybe even early '80s D-25M, so very small chance it's a mahogany topped instrument.

Edit: I now see that the seller even mentions that it's a spruce top!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

i have a flat back,70 ,i think.

but regardless of flat or arched,i think these are great guitars, and that $625 is a good price for one in good condition. usually ,beat up ones go for that.

Agree Cougar - that particular burst color combo is sublime - looking at the
JF30, I'll bet the burst D25 and it were built in the same time period.
In addition to the burst, pickguards look the same, wood used on the bridges look similar too.
