Hi, have this guitar from my father but no idea what year it is. Serial number is C171448. If you get rid of the C it shows to be a 1978 is that the correct information?

It may be from the Corona factory. Most modern records aren't found online, but... one of the forum members has the most complete records. Can you edit the title to say needs a date to get Hans' attention?

I really don't know how he figures out when his skills are called for, but he seems to always find these posts.

Hi, welcome! As GGJaguar said, it's from Oxnard, CA, so can't be older than a 2015. Oxnard build detail give-away is the plate with laser-etched s/n on heelblock.

The letters in Guild s/n's ARE relevant, and distinct from the periods when they only used numbers. IIRC the "C" in Oxnard s/n's calls out the actual build year, but that's just Oxnard's system.

You're in the right subforum for s/n date requests and they're usually seen by @hansmoust who can give a definitive answer about the year. (I just flagged him for you)

Also, member @SFIV1967 is pretty conversant with the decoding schemes for the different factories, he may know off the top of his head himself.
