...so I had one back in 1989 and played it 24/7 for years until it got lost - (don't ask) and I've searched for one for 30 years. Finally a few months ago I found one again and bought it. But it has some weirdness. It appears someone put silver pieces (see photo) in place of the usual "saddles" (no idea what the real name is). I bought and tried Steinberger "saddles" but returned them as they were too small. Does anyone here have some advice on this situation? ;)

Thank you!

It looks like those two saddles with the silver inserts are for a different version Steinberger. Did you try these:

I'm pretty sure they are exactly what I tried :(. I got mine from HeadlessUSA.com --- unless you are sure they are the Crossbow ones? The two look alike but I have picture of them together and you can see the size difference. The one on the right is the Steinberger and the bigger one is one of the Crossbow ones. (Yeah guess I should have measure them when I had the chance...). *UPDATED: 1.75cm :)

IMO the best thing you can do is replace the entire trem because the R-trems are junk. I replaced mine with a JCustom:

Sadly the JCustom I used in that article is no longer in stock from Headless USA and I don't know if they're sold elsewhere. Might get lucky and find one on Reverb or Ebay where they do seem to come up.

BTW you're like my hero :). I was 30 years looking for a Crossbow again and re-read your article many times.

Hey thanks!

If it's any consolation I think any Crossbow you were likely to find was going to have a bridge in need of repair unless it had already been replaced. If you haven't already I'd recommend pulling the bridge off and seeing if the posts are bent or damaged.

I'm kind of impressed that someone got a Seymour Duncan pickup in yours given the problems I had finding a pickup to fit mine.

Yeah I was surprised at the condition and the Seymour Duncans - don't get me wrong - it sounds great but those two saddles make it too twangy. I've since also got him a brother ;)
