I'm trying to find out about my GSR 20 I purchased from Elderly a number of years ago. Since only about twenty of these were made in this body size, I'm trying to figure out it's relation to the other GSR 20's. Serial no. reads NP23500 then a little space and a 1. Does that mean this is the first one made that day or because of the gap, it is the first of the twenty to be made? Any help would be appreciated.

I cannot answer your question although there will be others shortly who can. We wouldn't hate it if you posted a few pics of the whole guitar. Sounds super nice!! (y)

Ignoring the GSR and hoping my memory is correct

N - New Hartford
P = 2012
235 - Julian date - August 22 unless someone got confused about leap years
xxx - unit number built on that date.

So I would group the 1 with the rest of the serial number since three digits are expected.

Seems to me production volumes were low at that time and it is quite possible 20 instrument were finished over a three or four day period. So, if they followed their convention it does not have to be 1 of 20 and could even be 20 of 20.

The GSRs I have examined were a bit later but the serial number was the usual format and there was a separate label or certificate of authenticity that identified where the instrument was in the run, i.e. 5 of 20.

Thanks for the info. I figured that was probably the production position that day but wondered if there may have been something else going on. Here are some more pictures. Sadly, when I ordered it, Elderly called to let me know it had a couple of dings in the top. No more to be had so I went for it anyway. Fell in love with the wood ( Cocobolo ), but never really played it. The little I did, It does sound a little warmer than my Mahogany F20 NP130003.

Hi Steve, another happy "GSR F-20 Cocobolo" (the full official name) owner here! My one is 29 days younger than your one.
Now we are 3 on LTG who own one of the max. 20 made. (LTG member F312 (Ralph) also owns one, his is one day younger than your one).

The back on your one looks spectacular!

Here's a screen print from the Guild webpage back in November 2012:

The 20 of them (we don't know if all 20 were ever built) were produced from mid 2012 into mid 2013, the earliest serial number I have recorded was NP223005 and the last I have is NQ17x004. There are for sure slighly earlier and later numbers, I don't have them all in my files. I have seen pictures of only 10 of them so far.
10 should have been sold in North America and 10 in Europe. (I have not seen any in Asia yet).

Here is a quick shot of my one (outside but not in a good light).

It actually took a while until she opened up. When I got her she felt "stiff" and "soulless" to me, but after some playing time she sounds great for such a small body!

By the way, this was the first one ever built in 2012, the one they used for the pictures of the website, I don't know the serial number or who owns her now:

Did Elderly have any sound clips on line?
No, that was back in year 2012!

Ralf, yours is gorgeous too. That wild back on the prototype is actually either stump wood or maybe that's a knot from a branch, plus the heartwood at the bookmatch seam. Very cool, but frankly I prefer yours and Steve's! Congrats, guys!

Thanks Ralf, Great that you have the sales brochure for the series back then. I was not aware of how few were made. Your research also answers my question about the serial number. There was not a special serial number run. They were serialized along with the others being made at the time.
