Anyone know if the new Grover locking Rotomatic tuners will fit a 60s Guild starfire? I don't want to do any drilling on my guitar if possible. Also, does anyone know if these tuners are pretty good quality or can recommend a better historically accurate set of tuners? Thanks.

Not quite. I assume you're talking about these? Grover locking tuners

I have a NOS set that I'm using on a '64 Starfire project. The tuners are ever so slightly larger than the original holes. Some actually fit without too much pressure, but not quite good enough. As far as quality, I love Grovers! I've used them on many guitars & have never had issues with any of them.

Any good source for NOS tuners?

Thanks for the info. If I am going to do this, I want to do it right. Any good location to check for NOS gold tuners or do I have to just buzzard e-bay for a while?

Will the non-locking original Grover Rotomatics fit the original screw holes?

What did the original tuners look like? Chances are they were Grover statites (open back tuners with butterbean buttons), if so, Waverly (expensive) or current Grover Statites (cheaper and still great) would be a direct retrofit.

The guitar did not have tuners on it when I got it. I am not sure what was on there to begin with. That is why I was wondering what the standard tuner was. The guitar appears to be about a 1967 if the information that I have been able to find on dating is right. Thanks for the information.

I don't think so, but my father was a rambling man. Why do you ask?
