Pete Huttlinger put up the free tab for Late Winter Early Spring When Everybody Goes to Mexico on his website. This was the amazing instrumental on John Denver's Rocky Mountain High album. According to Pete, Denver and Mike Taylor (the lead guitarist) never played it live. Somehow they got Taylor to come to a JD tribute a few years ago and he played this for the first time in public to a standing ovation which surprised him because he never thought anyone cared for the tune.

Huttlinger only teaches the backup on his DVD, but here's the lead too. Good stuff, this is the song that made me want to learn guitar, and I never got it down after 30 years of trying. I always got lost when the third guitar came in.

I was in Aspen at the John Denver Gathering when Mike Taylor played the song.
I wasn't able to attend that concert though. [It was sold out before I could get tickets.]
The people that were in attendance loved it.
Pete has been at the Aspen In October gathering for at least 10 years, if I remember correctly.
John's keyboard player, Chris Nole has also been there each year.
The 2 of them put on a wonderful concert together.
Pete also holds a workshop during the AIO event.
If you are a John Denver fan, you should try to attend this event.
It's well worth the trip.

Good grief - I don't think I've ever visited this part of the forum before, so I didn't know this thread was here. I can't believe that I now have tab for this piece. I have been playing this song for years, both lead and rhythm, but there was always the "double time" part of the solo that I never could figure out. Maybe with this tab I can FINALLY work it out. If I ever get it right, I guess I'll just have to quit playing the guitar because there will be nothing left to accomplish...

I have always wondered why Mike Taylor and JD parted ways. Who knows? But the JD cuts that Mike Taylor played on have always been my favorites.
