Mrs. West just called me with the excuse of wanting me to take her reading glasses to her office......that little prankster. Anyway, when I got there, she said she had something for me. She said she wanted you guys to be able to hear Kenny play, and hands me this box. Inside was a thing called a Zoom H4. She had the thing hotshotted (overnighted) in from someplace in Mississippi. What the heck do I do with it? :? Looks like a stun gun to me.

West.

We use this to record our quartet. Surprisingly a great little device. I recommend a small tripod and upgrading the flash card.

Hey Randy. Thanks, but I'm afraid this thing may be over my head.....which ain't saying much. Great to hear you've had success with it. I'll keep reading.

Pretty simple really West, use the AC adapter though.

Install the card

Turn it on, switch on the left side

Press the 96 kHz button on the top, or the MP3 button, your choice

Press the Menu straight button down. It's a 5 way button

Press the Rec button once, it should flach and you should see a meter for the L and R channels in the display You can adjust the gain with the "Gain" button, depending on how close you get the device to the sound

Press the Rec button again to Record, it will stay a solid colour. When you're done, press the Rec button again. If you want to listen to it then and there, plug in some phones or ear buds and push the Menu button towards the front of the unit.

Doing good. Spoke to Michael last night, Jeff is still in Alaska fishing, the bastard.

Bass guitar has landed in Buffalo so we'll be off there this weekend to retrieve it.

That Mrs. West is very god to you sir. Wish we could be there as well, but might have to do something like this in October.

Are you going to stay a while now?

Let me know what you think there is to do. We're fly home out of San Antonio on Monday October 27.

Thought about maybe going down to Corpus for a day or two, maybe Austin, for sure the River Walk, the Alamo, Ninfa's

Welp, I'm really into scenery and Texas heritage, so it doesn't get any better than the Hill Country for me. There's Gruene........home of Gruene Hall on the edge of New Braunfels.....Ken knows all about that place I'm sure. It's where George Strait used to play all the time, and may still anong with scores of other artists. There's also a nice place to eat overlooking the river there....and don't tell Cid, but a bunch of shops. Music everywhere in Austin, San Antonio Zoo and Fiesta Texas. The Collings guitar factory is outside of Austin. Deer everwhere. Not sure if the Lone Star Brewery is still in business. I'm sure I could think of more, but we'll be checking out the Fredricksburg area. And how could I forget.....Luckenbach!

Off the top of my head, the only performers that made it big in that area are Strait, SRV, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, B.W. Stevenson, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jerry Jeff Walker, Steven Fromholz, Gary P Nunn, Pat Green, Rusty Weir and many, many others.
