I picked this up from a fellow on Reverb.
The story is that when he bought it, the black sparkle finish had been painted over in matte black. Probably someone progressing from Metal to Goth ;-)
He had the guitar stripped and pro re-finned in a pretty Candy Apple Red Metal Flake. He also had it re-fretted (low/wide) and rewired with a kill switch.
I'm having the guitar tech re-wire it for vol. - vol. - tone with the two vol. pots able to split out the two humbuckers.
I HAD to order some translucent red metal flake knobs for it (waiting for them).
The serial number isn't visible and the two original pots (in the case) date to '78. The previous owner thought it was an '82 but I don't suppose the exact date really matters to me much.
I only played it for a few minutes and I thought it sounded nice. Pretty hot pickups but that's okay.
Here ya go....

Very cool and looks great! Once it's been refinished then I say embrace the mods! That finish will survive better than Guild's did anyway.

Well, I got the X-79 rewired so I have two vols. and a tone control.
The two vol pots are push/pull so I can split the humbuckers. This works nicely and sounds great. I've only had one other guitar with splittable humbuckers and was disappointed. This is much better and I guessing it's because the pickups are kind of hot to begin with so that when you split them you still get a full single coil sound.
Neck split and and bridge full is a pretty cool sound.
