Some of you might remember this F-50 that was on ShopGoodwill in November. Goodwill is always a big gamble in my opinion, but sometimes I get bored enough to take that gamble, and this time I won the bid. After I had my luthier evaluate it he called me and said it might need a neck reset, but he can't say for sure until he glues the lifted bridge down and does a total refret! OMG, what did I get myself in to? I gave him the go-ahead, and he called yesterday to tell me it was done, "and turned out PERFECT", with no neck reset necessary. When I picked it up this morning he said he played it for an hour today, and in his words "I'm sorry to see it go, this guitar is special."
It's got a few character flaws, probably from a life on the road since 1979. An Italian duty sticker on the case gives a hint to where its been. The finish has a few big cracks, nothing serious, just the finish, and the original Guild sticker is missing, probably due to some humid conditions. But it now plays and sounds great, as good as new or better.
I've got $1800 total into this guitar right now (with case), so I'm feeling lucky, blessed and happy. Like the saying goes, "sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut!".

It’s bewildering someone donated this. That’s a pro grade jumbo.

I saw this one and watched the bidding closely. Sometimes you just gotta roll the dice. Happy to hear it turned out well. Play the hell out of it.

Nice, lucky score! I always wonder about the guitars on Goodwill; seems pretty risky. I did buy an older Alvarez as a beater/camp guitar and it showed up looking much worse than the pics. I cleaned it up a bit, messed around with the truss rod a bit and strung it up. It's far from pretty but holds it's tune well.

Great guitar, I've bought a few small things on Goodwill and most have turned out to be pretty good- some of the locations are better than others with their descriptions, so it is sometimes a gamble. Glad this one turned out to be a good one.

Thanks for the positive comments. I have to say I've had good luck with my ShopGoodwill guitar purchases. Yes, this F 50 was a gamble and it stretched my budget, but it turned out well and now I'm extra motivated to move a few others out.

At $1,800 I think you did quite well and it's tough to beat the sound and projection of a Jumbo F 50 Maple. Also, although some may feel differently, I like the look of the 2 PG set up.

Congrats and thanks for saving another worthy Guild.. There should be an organization like the SPCA for abandoned and abused Guild guitars.

I’d say you came out good on that deal Jerry. She is lovely and appears to be in nice condition.

Like a stray dog from the local pound: after a couple of shots, worming, and a bath you've discovered a very faithful companion.

I wasn't sure I liked the two pickguards, so to experiment, I shaved one half of my mustache off! Found out I preferred the symmetry of having matching sides. Just saying...... (kidding)

Haha that was part of "Polliwog/Shellback initiation" in the Navy, shaving off half the moustache.
