I think the difference for me is , if one day there was no recorded music could the "DJ" make some or would they have to wait for a musician to make some? One can created out of nothing. The other mixes what has already been created. The DJ is the bartender of music, if you think about it.
Clearly you have also chosen sides in Creatio ex nihilo vs. Ex nihilo nihil fit which for those who don't dabble in philosophy or theology, concerns whether something can be created from nothing, or not.
I see your point and at some level agree with it but wonder what happens the criteria were applied to pottery or sculpture both of which depend upon the existence of something else to even begin the creative process.
And yes, I realize we are just talking and not really trying to convince or prove anything
