I think the difference for me is , if one day there was no recorded music could the "DJ" make some or would they have to wait for a musician to make some? One can created out of nothing. The other mixes what has already been created. The DJ is the bartender of music, if you think about it.

Clearly you have also chosen sides in Creatio ex nihilo vs. Ex nihilo nihil fit which for those who don't dabble in philosophy or theology, concerns whether something can be created from nothing, or not.

I see your point and at some level agree with it but wonder what happens the criteria were applied to pottery or sculpture both of which depend upon the existence of something else to even begin the creative process.

And yes, I realize we are just talking and not really trying to convince or prove anything :)

You can find interesting (as relative as that word is) things by being interested in the world.

I often listen to Norway's NRK streaming services while I do things around the house. I particularly like their Jazz channel.

This singer, Sidsel Endresen, pops up a lot on their play list, not surprising since she is Norwegian. She has a very haunting voice. And her collaborator (on a lot of her stuff), Bugge Wesseltoft, has a minimalist keyboard style that both compliments and complements her voice. His keyboard work provides a solid foundation for her and leaves her so very, very much space.

Sidsel continued ...

Her work is all over the map. She has been performing/recording for a long time. Her early stuff is more straightforward pop. There is also minimalist techno synth stuff.

She also does a lot of really outside free-form improvisational stuff. And there is stuff that borders on performance/art/theatre.

A not for the faint-hearted alert is issued for the clip immediately below:

Not new artists, but a wonderful collaboration: Brilliant Hammond B-3 player Dr. Lonnie Smith and the inimitable Iggy Pop got together for a recently-released cover of Donovan's "Sunshine Superman".

I meant to thank you and/or Adorshki for introducing me to Mr. Green - in my OCD way, I went out and bought a bunch of his stuff, and its been in heavy rotation on my various music servers and devices.

Thanks.

I cannot steal credit from Adorshki.

I have not been here very long, and I only just mentioned Green above.

But let's have another tune from the Green monster himself ..

The bonny Yorkshire lass, Kate Rusby, is old but probably new to a lot of people in the US.

I don't think I've seen Aurora posted here. Check out this live performance. Such pure vocal tone.

She does it well. My mother-in-law, who grew up in the " hallers " of east Kentucky, would have liked it.

p.s. Is that w tattoo on her left cheek?
