You know, I wonder if one of these would help me to eek out that last 1% of tone from my GuildModel Four?

Got a nice bridge in Brooklyn I'll sell you for cheap...or perhaps you'd prefer a nice boat named after royalty floating in Long Beach, CA

Super solid-silver AC cables are my favorite kind of HiFi silliness.

Silver is the best conductor. Check.
Big thick silver cables makes for the best cables. Check.

What about the miles of cheap copper in the walls, breaker box, from the house to the pole, etc? Got a voltage purifier of some sort? Awesome - what's inside that?

I learned a lot about power working on mainframes because bad power would make thinks wonky at best and disastrous at worst. We had a team we'd dispatch with Dranitz meters to log the power and man is there some terrible power out there. Good clean power is enough. The power supplies in the HiFi equipment is what they should be focusing on.

On the other hand, I totally get the "I want the best of everything" mentality and if some Bitcoin billionaire came to me asking for the best audio system ever and said that money was no object I'd definitely be charging him $18,000 for a power cable. ;)

I always wondered what the effect is with fiber optic cable internet. It's super fast to the box in your house and then it's co-ax cable to your modem and then a Cat 6 cable to your router. Seems like the advantages to fiber optic are all negated with that last bit of wiring.

I have fiber to my PC. :)

Fiber internet is not about fidelity but rather speed and therefore capacity along with distance.

If the company is running fiber on the poles then they have vastly more capacity than if they ran copper. Think about an apartment complex where they’re offering Gigabit speed to 100s of units. They would need to be running terabits on the poles to serve that street even if they weren’t oversubscribing. You can’t do that with copper with massive bundles and such.

Fiber allows for greater capacity over greater distance in a much smaller package. Why it doesn’t matter in your home is because your fiber from the street only gets to the demarcation point after which it is routed. Once routed the signal is reconstructed by the router so the distance limitation starts anew and few people have network runs over 100 meters and most are using wireless these days, anyway.

But if you’d like I could sell you a solid silver router so your buts sound better. :)

Want a real laugh? You can buy faraday cages for your wifi router so that you don’t get that icky wifi all over you. The beat part is how people complain about how their wifi doesn’t work as well.

In case you think I made that up:

We'll have to call you Speedy now. You have the fastest internet in town (and yes, I'm jealous).

Actually my internet can’t keep up with my local network. The first thing I did in the new house was install fiber so there’s a 10Gb fiber backbone that will support 800Gb if the optics and switches ever come down in price. The biggest consumer of bandwidth in my house is between my Mac Pro (upstairs) and my NAS (basement) so there’s 2x10Gb between the office switches and basement. the rest of the house is Wifi which supports a theoretical speed of 1.5Gb per client.

My Internet is a paltry 300Mb.

Dude, you need the 8K power cord for your Mac Pro! The wheels alone need that clean power!
