More specifically the D-25? Went to my local music store and pawnshops and none of the cases fit well. Usually the lid won’t shut all the way or just barely but would probably exert wayyyy too much force on the top.

Guild's store has two cases that should work for your guitar. The more-economical one is currently out-of-stock, but supposedly they have two of the pricier/nicer one available.

And it would appear to qualify for free shipping, too, given that it is over $150.

That may very well work & it’d be cool to have one of the same brand, even if from a different era. If I were in the market, I’d probably look into something like this: & of course, because it’s me, I cannot get the link from my amazon app to work (copy & paste), so here it the model number by TKL.

TKL Acoustic Guitar Case (TKL8820-U) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EENHC0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.IlIEbJ9VA4FQ

If you’ll notice under specs, the depth is 6 inches. Now, sometimes that matters & sometimes it doesn’t. Depend s on factors like kind and type of padding and how much give it’s got or will form fit to your guitar. Believe me, I’ve been in your shoes plenty & the only way to know for sure is to try it out in person. But absent of that, it’s kind of a best educated guess (unless you can measure the proper height of the body of the guitar from bottom or the arch back to top of the bridge, or something like that to give you a pretty good estimate at least on what will likely not work...

I can say that Guild sold only 2 types of cases for dreads, either the "Standard" or the "Deluxe"; indicating the extra depth of the arch was not a big factor in their cases. TKL was a big supplier for 'em.
My own '96 D25's case , even though "standard", has padding thick enough to "give" a lot as Midnightright says, and in fact it's the lid of the case where the outlines of the bridge, nut, and strings have become imprinted over the years.
The lining of the case itself is only slightly molded by the archback.

I store my d25m in a hiscox case, fits perfectly and if I could I would buy the same case for each of my guitars. Best case I’ve ever seen.

I ended up buying a TKL case. I just took measurements of the guitar and that one seemed to be the best option. Oddly enough absolutely none of my dreadnaught cases would fit the guitar very well. Even my somewhat oversized yellow lined MIJ case that my Tokai Cats Eye’s guitar shipped in wouldn’t really fit without putting a concerning amount of pressure on the bridge.

Am I the only one who thought you were looking for a reasoned argument for buying one?

If a Hiscox fits, and from above post it does, I give a hardy endorsement. More expensive, but I have a friend who has no problem gate checking a D 18 Authentic when going on an international flight. He sees no reason for getting the more expensive Hiscox. The base model just works fine. It does look rather austere though, but is lightweight and does the job.

That wasn’t my intent. I was just looking for recommendations because none of the ones I had on hand fit at all. That TKL just so happens to have been the only one in the store that fits and the gentleman who gave his recommendations for the Hiscox so happened to do so a day or two after I purchased the TKL. I thank everyone for their recommendations.

I'd look for an original Guild case. I've scored a few on the Bay.

I thought this post was about making a case for an old D25 archback, like are they all that, etc ;}

I do believe that is the one version of the Dread I don't have, so that in itself makes a case for buying something.

The factory Guild case for my D5CE is what you're looking for, a 90's case, red interior. Guild stencil on top of the case. Undoubtedly a Canadian made TKL. I like that case because it doesn't have any collector value like my original Dread cases, so I can take it out, smack it into stuff here and there, no worries, Bulletproof Tolex case, not plastic. Fits all dreadnoughts.

Even the TKL needs a little force to close entirely, quite concerning...

I like thermoplastic cases because they're less prone to hosting mold & mildew, smells, and pin-head size white critters. I've had to deal with all of that in standard wood cases, especially older TKLs.

The inexpensive Road-Runner thermoplastic case sold by Guitar Center (standard dread-size acoustic) will easily store an arched D-25. The exact same case is sold online by both Guitar Center & Musician's Friend under the Musician's Gear name. The only difference is that the interior is black, as opposed to the Road Runner's silver/grey. The Musician's Gear case will periodically be listed at a very deep sale price.

These cases do not have the Hiscox's protective characteristics, but are fine if you simply want something for storing the guitar at home.

If you post where you are located, perhaps an LTG member in your area can let you try placing your guitar in their Guild dread case. Then you'll know how it should fit, and decide whether the TKL is too tight.

In my opinion it should fit snugly, but no real force should be needed to close the lid.

Yeah, like he said, it’s probably fine (but only you would know for sure). Where I have encountered the problems like you’re mentioning, is in cheaper generic cases that don’t have anywhere near the depth necessary to close properly - or without feeling the urge of just hopping up on top and sitting down on it! j/k! ;)

I was also told by my repair man that there apparently is a better way to measure the height (or depth) from base or back of arch to tip top of bride, and it involved laying it flat on its back on a table such that it would replicate the angle sitting inside a case. He claimed it could make a difference.
