Yeah, I know there's not a lot of love for Gibson for many of you on this forum. I've always been a bit of a fan myself.

But, OMG, the back on this one is pretty special.

Not sure about all the glitz etc. on the fingerboard and the price of course is way outside the realm of possibilities for me but that back gives me shivers.

Would that be "curley", or "quilted" maple?
Definitely Quilted.

In curly maple the ripples in the grain pattern create a three dimensional effect that appears as if the grain has “curled” along the length of the board. Think long blonde curly hair.

By the way, now we know why Ren's new guitars also have such "overloaded" fretboards!

No mustache bridge kills it for me. Oh, yeah and a couple thousand dollars as well.

Not sure if you're serious on the mustache bridge or not. Personally, I do like that look. Seems like quite a few on this forum don't though. Just like any other forum I guess. Lots of differing opinions, none of them necessarily right or wrong.

I've always wanted a J-185, and that might happen soon. Not this one though. Waaaaaaaay too much bling, but the back sure is pretty!

Oh, yeah, I've liked the mustache bridge since I first saw one on a Dave Van Ronk cover, probably '64 or so. The whole upscale Gibson J models just look better with one, too me at least.

My favorite model of all time. Took me years to finally latch onto my plain-jane keeper - and well worth the quest:

WOW!! I really like everything on that EXCEPT the pickguard. If the pickguard was plain, it would be so much more pretty. I know that some don't care for Gibson guitars, but I like them some and there was one at guitar center that took my breath away. I hate cutaways on dreads. They just don't work for me. So as I was at GC sitting on the stool playing a few guitars and there kinda behind me was a Gibson dread with a cutaway. I didn't even have to get up so I just grabbed it and played it a bit. Very quickly I found myself reevaluating my "no more dreads" and "no dreads with cutaways" policies. That was one of the nicest sounding guitars I've ever played. I kept my resolve and left without it, but DAMN!!!

@bobouz, SEE?? That tortoiseshell pickguard looks AMAZING!!!

Got to play an original J-185 many years ago at Elderly: wowza, what a sound! Big and bold, IMO better balanced than a typical J-200. Couldn't afford it else I'da bought it on the spot.

I haven't seen too many guitars that were too over the top for me. Typically, I like the bling. This one would be a challenge for me though. On the other hand, if money were no object I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
