Anyone out there with info on the GF Series of Guilds? A couple of recent posts have me interested in taking a look/acquiring one of these beauties and I'm wondering if they might not have been produced in very large numbers, etc. The 25 and 50 are targets that might be a good remedy for the GAS sypmptoms I've been 'suffering' for the past few months.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Joe

If you are looking for a rosewood GF, then you might want to take a good look at the precursor, the F-46. Grunh has a pretty nice one for sale. I think he is pretty firm on the price though..

He is!

It's a great sounding guitar, and I think he handpicked it when it went out the door the first time. It might just be worth it...

I tried to trade him another high end guitar for it. He didn't go for it. I'm surprised he's selling it. I wonder if he's got another one he's keeping.

Jay Pilzer's got a 'burst GF-30 at New Hope. Must be a fairly recent addition... don't recall seeing it last time I looked.

Not cheap... but a pretty burst with factory electronics.

This is a semi-digression, but . . . I got my Gruhn era F44 back from my luthier (the excellent Paul Neri in Clinton, CT). Paul reglued the lifting bridge and I can't even begin to tell you how good this guitar now sounds. It roars and projects when strums, and sings loudly and articulately when finger picked. It sounds better than ever and I'm now completely over any remorse I had over selling my custom shop F30r-ls. This guitar is the one for me.

So with that in mind, and given the cost of a quality new instrument these days ($2000 isn't that high in context), I wouldn't hesitate to spend $2000 on that hand-picked GF over at Gruhns. Assuming it's all it's cracked up to be, you'll never even think of upgrading.

That guitar has been for sale on his site for a long time. It will be a long shot but when we head to Texas in the fall, we're going to pass through Nashville. If it's still there, I might just go for it.

I had a chance to play that guitar. It has been played, but is in pretty good shape. There is some serious competition in a place like Gruhns, a wide variety of high end instruments. A cool shop, with nice folks. So that may be why it hasn't sold yet. The few Gruhn era guitars I've had the chance to play seem very light, and they really seem to me to be very alive. My wife, who's standard answer is they all sound the same to her, said she liked the way that one sounded. But...the only thing I got was a t-shirt.

Another thing I really like about the Gruhn guitars is their size and shape. The 16 inch "mini-jumbo" is in my opinion, ideal. My F44 is exceptional when strummed and flatpicked, and it more than holds it own for fingerpicking. It's comfortable to play both sitting and standing, and the fretboard is a bit wider than the standard Guild 1-11/16".

Somewhere along the line someone sent me an old Frets Magazine article on the Gruhn F series, specifically the F44 I think. Unfortunately I just can't seem to track it down. If someone does have the article, I'm hoping they'll post it for the rest of us.

This is the model that probably has me the most intrigued of all Guilds right now. I miss my hunk-a-maple sometimes, and mini jumbo is a very cool body size/shape for me. I'm not a huge fan of this particular burst and the price seems pretty high, but at some point I might have to spring for a natural top GF-30.

Anyone else here have one? I know there's been plenty of GF-25 owners here, but I'm all set with mahogany.

I have a GF30 - the maple sound took some getting used to at first since it's a bit brighter than rosewood or mahogany, but it projects and sustains better to my ear. I found this guitar online a few years ago, listed w/o a picture. The seller sent me some pics and as soon as I saw the flame I was sold (and so was the guitar!).

I'm a big fan of the GF series - it's hard to go wrong with any of them IMHO.

91GF30BLD on monday of this week. So far it's been more than I bargined for. I like it...traditional series.
also have a 80G37BLD. It roars, dont get me wrong. I figured it was year difference or different maple? can anybody explain? Don't want to let go of the G37 but I can't keep both.

I had a '90 GF30 that sounded pretty good. Very bright but clear definition from top to bottom. I traded it in because I didn't want to invest in a neck re-set and then spent over a year looking for another one. I finally found an '87 on Craigslist. Bought it based on pictures and have not been sorry. This one thumps out the bass and still has the brightness in the mids and treble. It has a much fuller sound than my D35 but not quite the vibe of the F30R.
