Here's a D-60 start at 1:40 (horrible recording technique, turn the sound down)
I'm guessing that the G45 sounds the same they're very similar looking

Yes, we know him, he used to be a member here, he's from Greece. He's the guitar tech of Greek superstar Stelios Rokkos. Stelios played many Guilds in the past.
By the way, welcome to LTG!

Was that the guy who wouldn't believe the arched back of his F65ce was laminated because the grain of the maple outside layers was perfectly matched? I can only remember he was from Greece, too.

Sean, nice guitar. You should post this in the FS/FT section so it's not buried in this almost year old thread. Just a suggestion.

I just discovered this great thread when doing a little research on my Hank Jr. Signature G-45. Here’s mine.

Thanks for all the great info!

I've still got this guitar, and it's sounding better all the time .... but there is one thing about it that I'd like some guidance on.
When I tune the top E string with a tuner, the G on the third fret is consistently sharp - noticeably so, at least to me. What would you do, or have done to correct that? The rest of the strings seem to be reasonably in tune as you move up the neck ... it's mainly just the top E string ???

I would post some pictures, but can't figure out how to do that here. Serial # GD100024. Sounds pretty similar to the one you just acquired, Stuball. A few LITTLE dings on the front, and the frets have probably been filed down for the last time before needing to be replaced (so the action is really nice right now), but other than that, it's in great shape. Original Guild case. Had some light guage strings on it 'cause I wasn't playing much and the fingers were soft, but a luthier suggested some mediums recently - so I did. Increased the sound incredibly (of course the light guages were antiques of their own right, so I'm sure that didn't help). Anyway - I'm a hack player - so I'm 'over intrumented' for my skill level. Still, it's nice to have an instrument capable of responding when I accidentally do something nice .... Thanks for the info. My middle daughter will end up with it when I pass on. Bought her a breedlove from a guy at her church a couple of years ago. THAT'S a nice sounding guitar too !!!!
Oh man, I love it! "Over instrumented"!!! The perfect way to describe myself. My guess is that there are just a few of us her who are "over instrumented" :ROFLMAO:. But you know, I have mine because I love them, and I'm guessing most on this forum feel the same way. Otherwise, the only folks who could own more than one would be accomplished professional players.

A beautiful guitar by the way. I'm a D30 lover myself, but am D30 poor at the moment.😊

Is it only on the third fret, or is it the third fret and all up the neck from there on?

If it is only the third fret, there may be an issue with the third fret wire itself, as in the curve at the top of the fret not being centered over the middle of the fret where the top E string contacts it when it is fretted, or possibly a strange wear pattern on the third fret. Replace the fret wire at the third fret, and have it levelled and re-crowned.

If it is all of the frets from the third fret on up the neck, then the top E groove in the nut is either too tall (so when you fret the third fret, you are actually pulling the top E string sharp), or possibly there is an issue with the nut slot for the top E string and/or the E string is not sitting properly in the nut slot.

Unless you have the right tools (fret crowning tool, nut files) to address these issues already, it is probably best to have it looked at by a good luthier. Shouldn't be hard, or expensive, or address.

+1 on time for a tune-up. Address those frets and nut slots and your troubles will likely disappear.

If the trouble persists, check the scale length/intonation of the 1st string. It may be that slightly lengthening the distance from the nut to the saddle is all it takes to overcome the sharpened fretted notes.
