My '74 G-37 has similar tuners:

The saddle is on an angle to "compensate" for the differences in tone of the varied caliber of strings on an acoustic guitar. So each string will have a slightly different scale length. So, A guitar's scale length is calculated by measuring the distance from the front edge of the nut, where it butts against the end of the fingerboard, to the center of the 12th (octave) fret, then doubling that measurement.

Thx for reply.
I measured twice. From nut to 12th fret = 32,5 cm (12,8 inch) x 2
Maybe I don,t have to worry.

She’s back from the luthier.
He crowned the frets. Next time they must be replaced.
But I still have some questions.
How do I measure the scale length? If I measure from nut to bridge saddle I have 65,2 cm. Equals 25,67 inches !
While a G-41 has to have 26 1/4 inches, I think.
Scale length is measured from the nut to the 12th fret (NOT the "center" as Tom said , but the fret itself where one would test the octave harmonic) and doubled. That should yield your 26-1/4 scale length.
12.8x2= 25.6 which is still not your true scale length.
Also the tuners make me wonder. If I look at pics from a G-41 they mostly have other tuners compared to mine. Can any one explain?

Besides simply changing specs, Guild was known to use available parts if the "spec" parts weren't available for some reason.
I see GJMalcyon has similar tuners on his G-37, so they're likely "stock".

Welcome to LTG Rudi! The tuners are original and are GOTOH made tuners. Guild used them on a number of models in the 70ies, like the D-35, D-40 and S-70. And also on the G-37 and G-41 as it looks.

Al, you ignorant slut!! I said to the center of the FRET, the 12th FRET. You know the FRET? That wire stuff they use to section off the FRET-board with? Learn to read a little better okay....... Jeeze.

Would "middle of the fret" be more easily understood by you??

Says the guy who by his own admission doesn't read all the posts in athread before commenting, but now that he's got a little time on his hands he goes after the big guns.
And by the way, I could say the same for you about this post:
Here's a situation where we need Al. If you've visited before, Adorshki is a member who chimes in with info and details and history probably more than you ever needed or wanted, but he's on a self imposed quarantine at home with no wifi....
(From here https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index.php?threads/help.202238/)
Self -imposed?
What part of "my employer has elected to close the front office and ordered all clerical/marketing employees to work from home" did you not get? (From here https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index.php?threads/adios-muchachos.202236/)
Well in the rapidly changing social environment here in sunny Californy, my employer has elected to close the front office and ordered all clerical/marketing employees to work from home.
Would "middle of the fret" be more easily understood by you??
"Fret" refers to both frets and the space between them.
Why would you specify the center (or middle) of the fretwire?
It doesn't matter as long as you're measuring in a line that forms a perpendicular.
And you wonder why I don't pick up the phone.
And by the way can I have my saw back?

Your participation in a guitar forum online has nothing to do with your work. Most normal people these days have smart phones and computers or tablets and use wifi and have some type of connection at home for their pleasurable persuits such as guitar forums, social media, and streaming Netflix and other sources of video entertainment. You choose to isolate yourself by not complying with the norm, which you're entirely welcome to do. But blaming your employer for not being able to participate is a step beyond, Al. Truly it is. So since your employer is no longer enabling you to do your personal stuff on their dime, you bowed out. Fine with me. Don't blame them for your isolation, though. That's your own responsibility and your choice.

Anyway, I'm so glad you're back to guide our new member Rudi through the perils of my treacherous posts that are so mis-informed. He must think us savages!!! And since you're still participating on your employers dime, I think I'm gonna call you "Part Time Al"! It has a nice ring to it, don't you think???

Did I blame 'em?
I just explained why it was gonna look like I disappeared.
And as a matter of fact I took a commission hit because the old employer provided the hardware so just whose dime was it, originally, anyway?
But I tire of this now.
Bye.

Yes, as noted above, a number of Guilds from the '70s came with those tuners. My 1976 G-37 has them. They do not appear in Hans' book in the section on tuners, which surprised me since they were so prevalent during that era.

As for the size of the G-41, I can only say that I've never been able to grow into a guitar who's playability did not readily suit me.

Edit: And dare I mention scale-length, but 24.75" is my favorite, so 26.25" would probably be too darn long.

Of course you dare, and all quibbling aside I tend to agree with you. My Taylor is my only short scale guitar and I enjoy it's playability a lot. Standard scale lengths are fine. But I'd imagine, like you, that a long scale length like the G41 would be a bit much. It would be fun to have one in hand just to see what it feels like, you know? Maybe one day I'll run across one and I'll find out!! (y)

The nice thing about reading all posts before responding is that I did not have to referee between two esteemed members who are obviously displaying side effects of social isolation.

I got a problem with people making statements about my lifestyle and intentions/motivations when they don't know what they're talking about, especially with snarky overtones.
It'll never work between me and Tom, we're too different.
Besides, what would we tell our partners?
The thing I like best about mine is no drama, and I don't need it here, either.
Would you like some butter on that popcorn, sir?

Thanks Al - I'm fine.

And since I personally never commented yours or Toms lifestyle or personal decisions in judging or captious manner - I took the liberty of digging a picture of man eating popcorn.

Take care.

Oh I got it, I actually like the old emoticon indicating rapturous following of some kind of dramatic interaction.
No offense taken, humorous intent understood.
Anything that helps lighten the moment's OK by me.

Hello Rudi,

Not 100% sure what's going on with your guitar, but it looks like Guild mounted a D-40 neck on a G-41 body.
Obviously this is something that shouldn't have happened. Apparently it didn't become clear until after the guitar was finished (as in lacquered), but it was still possible to put the bridge in the correct position for a regular scale guitar.

If what I think has happened really happened then you probably have the only regular scale Guild G-41 on the planet!

Would love to see the guitar to check my 'theory'!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

The G41s neck looks oddly skinny in the pictures. Probably because the body is so wide (at 17").
