The forum software is now set so that you can edit your own posts for 4 days. After 4 days any edits must be done by a moderator.

This was actually turned on in the past but I disabled it because of issues maintaining long-standing stickied informational threads. That issue has been resolved so the edit limit is back on. If you have stickied threads that you'd like to maintain, PM me and we'll figure it out.

Why do this?

First, this is a relatively common thing on forums, and I've been on forums where posts are uneditable after one hour, but more commonly I've seen 24 hours. Even parts of sites like Reddit limit changes after a certain period of time.

This site has been running since January 2003 (or even earlier), so there is almost two decades of information stored here, much of which is not available anywhere else. Making the majority of that history uneditable just makes sense from a historical preservation point of view. Heck, that's why I took over LTG in the first place: to keep the Guild knowledge alive.

As always if it's not working or causes more problems than it's worth then we'll re-evaluate and see if there's a better solution, but I try to be as open as possible to what's going on, so that's what's going on.

Once again it's 2am so I'm going to bed. :)

Edit - Nov 2022 - It's been almost a year and there have been no complaints.

And once again it is 2:30 and I'm waking up.
