So my son decided to go hunting on Friday, he was only in the woods for an hour and bang, he got a nice 6-point buck. Looking forward to some venison jerky.

Way to go son! Playing a DV52 and bringing home a 6 point. Love Venison jerky and/or beef jerky.

Depends on what the deer have been eating - deer that are chowing down in the cornfields at night are really tasty, like eating corn fed beef. Steaks and chops to die for. Or make them into jerky, that's the big decision.

Had some really nice venison sausage a couple of years ago. The guy who made the sausage told me he added some pork fat since venison is so lean. Was really good.

My friend's wife made canned venison with added beef tallow to give it some fat, it made great stew!

When making venison burger or sausage, most people combine it with pork butt @ a 1:1 ratio.
I photographed these earlier this Fall, and they would make for some good eating. . .

I don't hunt any more, but I support hunting in Michigan as we have a well managed deer population largely due to good hunting practices, and it puts meat on a lot of tables. Not to mention it adds millions to the state economy.

Meanwhile, I sold my Dad's deer rifle and used the proceeds to buy a guitar.

In my southern end of The Garden State, the automobile is now the primary predator controlling the deer population. AAA figured out that in October-December, 2018, there was one deer-automobile collision every 25 minutes in NJ.
