Regarding the hum canceling mod described by billydlight, here's a few pics of mine for reference. Note, my pickups are disassembled to this extent because I've been trying to clean up a poly finish that was slopped on the guitar which covered a lot of the pickup surface. You can see some of this in my project thread Aristocrat has landed.

On my set of pickups, the North side of the magnets are facing the pole pieces. Flipping the magnets in the neck pickup as Billy described would place the South side of the magnets at the pole pieces.

On humbucker pickups, it's typically the South side facing the pole pieces.

Well, if this is a "reference post", I can add this : I have two pairs of Franz pickups that measure out an even 5K DC resistance on the meter, and two pairs that measure out at 6K.
The 5K ones have regular looking bobbins, the 6K ones have molded shells with the coil inside.

My two sets of 1959s read

bridge/neck
4.81 / 4.89
6.20 / 7.79

Quite different, huh? :?

You should Mr. D. Light. I would say you, Walter, and caveman are the world's leading Franz pickup evangelists. . . and I'm not just saying that.

mrjones,
Cleveland Guitars? Do tell.

JP, in my case "the preacher" was Dave Gonzalez - and he didn't have to talk about them, just his playing that old Guild was enough to get me hooked!

MfrJones - tell me how to spot the difference between Formvar and enamel, and I'll do what I can for you.

I have been speaking with Jason Lollar and he is pretty convinced that he can recreate the sound of a franz pickup. He told me it would be close (obviously not aged like a franz).

I thought I would throw out the info, I can not get a set myself. I do not have a guitar to put them in. I have to sell my biggest amp first

Do any of you history buffs know where I could find a Franz Ferdinand reference post?

The rock band or the Archduke??

Has anyone been able to test drive the new GSR model that claims to have "Franz" repros? Does Seymour still make pups for Guild? Any chance these will get offered seperately as standalone pups from SD?

I emailed Seymore Duncans customer support and they replied with "Contact the custom shop for pricing and lead time"

So Im assuming you can get them but they dont have them sitting on the shelf ready to go.
