I'd like to get me a small multitracker: Any ideas about Tascam DP004 or 008 or FOSTEX MR-8 MKII? And what would you assume a nice price for those in the US?

I have a Fostex MR8 (older version). I've used it to record all of my stuff. Very simple to set up and use, but I never tried any editing there. I always move the files to a PC for editing with Cakewalk software.

I never used a Tascam, so no comment about those.

10 years ago, when I was prolifically recording (about 40 tunes over the span of 2.5 years), I started with a Tascam 4-track (tape) then graduated to a Fostex 8-track (digital, DMT-8). I thought they both worked well for what they were - so maybe there's not much difference between brands, except personal preferences?

Hi Markus,

I got the Fostex MR8 a year ago (the one with the CD drive) and have been loving it a little more each day since then...
The guitar input pre-amp is surprisingly good additionaly.
Don't know what they go for now (google will let you know quicky), I think I paid around $300 for mine with some kinda online Musician Friend promo, so maybe in the $200 to $250 range now?...
