I remember way back when Lego first started introducing software controlled kits. They started experiencing an alarming number of very skilled security penetrations of their networks. No damage was done. There seemed to be no interest on the part of the hackers in Lego's financial or personnel information. All that was wanted was the source code for the software controlled kits. To their credit, the Lego people weren't dumb. They quickly figured out that many computer nerds still loved Lego ... and well .... Lego and computers ... like what could be better? So they took a risk with their investment in software development and made their code Open Source. They were paid back big time with a lot of free and highly skilled programming done for them for free. The hackers wanted the code to play with and mod. They gave their work back.
