hey y'all

I'm thinking of lifting the fab sounding midi humbuckers (they're not really mini humbuckers) from my 1966 SFIII to drop them into a newer guitar with better playability, just to see how it sounds and if it's workable.

I was wondering if anyone makes min ihumbucker to full size humbucker mounting rings that i could then adapt to fit the guild size. Does anyone know about that?

Thanks

You might be best-off picking up some plexiglass from the hardware store and cutting it to size/shape. You could spray paint it black from the backside and reasonable approximate the look of the pickguard. Even if somebody makes mini-full size rings, you'll still have to do some modifying to get them to fit the Guild minis. Also, if you're going into a Guild, with full-size Guild routes, the full size mounting holes will be different than standard humbucker rings anyway.

Please, don't ruin an old Starfire! Just sell it for a pile of dough to someone who'll love it as-is, and buy some Seymour Duncans or something!

it's been worked on, quite a bit, work on frets, fingerboard, all sorts. we'll see how it comes out, but any which way there'll be no ruination. why would it be ruined?

If you liked those Guild HB's in the other guitar, and retrofitted the Starfire with pickups that don't belong there...
Nothing worse than finding a Starfire with full-size, aftermarket humbuckers in it!

whoa whoa there, no one mentioned anything at all ever about retrofitting anything in the Guild at all. nada. Gonna try the mini HBs somewhere else to see how much of the vibe is coming from them. they're microphonic as hell and i love them.

just to let you know i finally got started on this this morning.

I was able to remove the whole wiring harness from the guild and slot it right into the new guitar, luckily everything was the right length, even the pot spacing was good though i needed to make the holes a little wider on the new guitar. The Mini HBs slot in pretty easy too and don't look bad at all.

The Guild is now a shell but i can just slot the harness back in when i want to.

The only problem i have is that the break angle on the new guitar is really low, so i can't use the original bridge, and the pickup adjustment screws are not long enough to lower the pickups close enough to the mounting rings. I'll have to see if i can hook up some longer screws. I may also have problems with the Bigsby for the same reason, in which case i'll have to get a new one with a tension bar.

Here's some pics. That's the earth lead sticking out. The pickups look wonky because they're not screwed down.
