I almost snagged a b-301 a couple of years ago, but this is the first Guild I've gotten my hands on.

It was in rough condition, electronics had to be totally redone, and it's got some homebrew wooden saddle
for the E string. Originally sunburst.
And the binding looks like wood filler... crazy hippies.

It's strung with GHS precision flatwounds. They're a little stiff but the tone is incredible.
Much love!

Welcome here Luckie, and GREAT first post with pictures too!

Beautiful bass; I just love my SF1. Is the finish original, or is it just the lighting?

Yeah, I wish there weren't holes all around the edge of the back, what are those about?
I'm considering having it refinished, any good Guild techs around?

Welcome. Kind of looks like you rescued it, which is good. I like the finish but suspect it might not be original. Maple or mahogany?

This site offers saddles. Proprietor sometimes posts on LTG.

It had been sitting in a case for 10 years, I just took it out and set it up.
The finish is extremely not original, the wipe on poly has tons of drip marks.
It's maple, and was originally sunburst.

Well, there's our own Fixit in FL, but he's kinda busy right now.

Luckie, that maple looks extremely attractive; to me, anyway.

As much as I love sunbursts, I'm hoping you'll keep it natural.

And, a hearty welcome to the lounge.

I like the maple too, but it's got some damage that would make a blonde refinish unwise.
I might go with an emerald finish, you don't see a lot of those.

thanks!

mgod who is the only poster I know who has played both maple and mahogany vintage Starfires extensively much prefers the maple. You have a keeper for sure. Emerald could be very interesting although as long as you are doing a refin you might look for something completely off the wall and try blue.

It might be the new go to, usurping the fender p.
I'm talking with fixit about repair options, if color options get interesting there will surely be a thread on it.
