mmm ... gotta ask ... have you tried Thomastik-Infeld 'Plectrums'?

I think they are the ultimate soft-feel, warm tone strings ... but expensive!

Next best was LaBella Silk & Steels ... I thought both of these were superior to D'Addario Silk & Steels.

D'Addario Silk and Steel.
Those were the first strings I used when I was learning how to play. They felt great! And yes, I used them because bronze strings hurt my fingers when I was a beginner. Once my fingers toughened up, I switched to PB. Not because the S&S strings sounded bad, but because 1) they died pretty quickly and 2) PB strings were louder.

What's different with silk and steel that makes you like them so much ? I have a set of Martin that I got by mistake (or maybe willing to try them at the time I ordered them - I'm not so sure -), but I haven't tried them yet : thought they were meant not to damage fragile guitars ??

Silk & Steel (or Bronze) strings are softer on the fingers and also come up to pitch at a lower tension, thereby making it easier to fret. So easier on the fingers and hands overall.

All true. Easier on the guitar. Easier to play. But also VERY different sounding than other strings. Some folks dig it, some don’t.

I think I ordered them by mistake believing I'd be getting those flexible core strings I like (or maybe the seller got confused - whatever -). But since they do what I like with flexible core strings it seems, I'm gonna use them quickly now :) . Thanks guys for the info. I might use them on my Guild then, as a tribute to LTG folks :giggle:

This is why I switched to EJ15 D'Addario Phosphor Bronze Extra Light a while ago (10 - 47).

Also helps me in my quest to play with a lighter touch...

In the sixties while in high school and college, I used LaBella silk & steels on my 12-strings. They had great tone and were easy on the fingers. We were doing weekend gigs, sometimes 3 sets a night and I changed them every week. Loved them!

Loving that style and the tone of that F-30, WW. Glad you found the one, sir. I do believe it has been more than 4-5 years. I want to say maybe 7 or more years.. I could dig back through threads, but I would rather just guess. Either way, always a pleasure to watch / hear you play sir. I am glad you're putting some miles on that beautiful F-30.

wow, thanks D30 for the kind words and encouragement. The F30R I bought from Bonneville in 2020 or 21, I forget. I chose this one as it had a slimmer waist, as I was having issues with my right shoulder. It basically cured it. I don't play dreads anymore, but still got the Br. I would not say I am a huge rosewood guy, but this F30 has grown on me, and it's the only guitar I play. I believe it has opened up some since I have taken it over. :) And I doubt I will ever find the perfect guitar string for it either, but SAS is fun when it's all I can afford these days...
