I live in New Hartford and have been associated with the plant for 47 years as a subcontractor.

Just spoke with a friend of an employee that Guild, Ovation and Hamer will cease operations. This is the only info I have at the moment.

Not buying this. They just opened up the Guild Custom Shop, Fender Acoustic Custom Shop, re-introduced Guild electric models & introduced more new models at NAMM. Not to mention the fact that they hired Ren Freguson & got Doyle Dykes to come on board. No way Guild is shutting down, Fender has way too much money invested at this point.

Please say this is a terrible joke. Guild cannot die.

Most likely this is a ruse. Moving on now.

That is two steps away from first hand information and it should be noted that, other than custom orders and the occasional repair, Ovation and Hamer have already ceased operations in New Hartford. Nevertheless, if there is any concrete information behind this, we would like to know. It certainly does not seem to make any business sense but LTG is filled with posts from people discussing Fender's business decisions that don't make sense to LTG.

Holy crap, completely out of nowhere. What the heck is going on at FMIC?

Thanks for the bad news, GT & Thanks for confirmation, GJ.

All the best,

So where is the announcement from Fender? Are they closing the Fender Acoustic Custom Shop? Ren retiring? Is Doyle Dykes not playing guitar anymore?

Given what you mention, Watasha would be logic to assume FMIC will reallocate Guild's production. But, but... Where? Or even more important: why they decided to close NH? Looks like they do not learn from the past...

All the best,
B.

The employes were just told at 7:30 this morning. More here.

That talks about Hamer, I see no mention of the Guild brand ceasing to exist. FWIW, if they move Guild AGAIN I'm not sure I'll be able to make myself take them seriously. From Westerly to Corona, to Tacoma to New Hartford...to...REALLY?

yes, maybe Fender is just moving Guild US to a cheaper location for them in the US. Like to Dallas or Phoenix....
