Hi LTG gang,

I play a lot of electric Guilds but have limited experiance with acoustics. In the past I owned a 1980 DC-40 and a late 1990's JF-30-12.

I have been interested in the F45CE for some time , most likely because the neck looks similar to an electric. The guys posted one on the ebay/gbase/craigslist section.

Can anyone comment on the player and sonic qualities of the F45CE. Any comment on what is a reasonable $?

Thanks,

M

These are fun guitars, M. Body depth is close to a normal acoustic (4 1/2"). The one I had did not compromise much at all in terms of acoustic tone and volume. And it was designed for PB 12-53 acoustic strings. Lots of punch unplugged.

The neck has 24 frets and a shorter 24 3/4" scale, so it feels and plays more like an electric guitar neck.
Rather slender neck for an acoustic, but not the thinnest ever. Only 1 5/8" wide at nut. The combination made the PB's feel lighter than the gauge and tension.

The guitar I had came with an ungraded (later) Fishman preamp system, so I can't comment on the original electronics.

An interesting look with that severe cutaway. Mine had an awesome top, and it was one of the earlier ones with mahogany sides and arched back.

It had been played hard and had battle scars, but it was a helleva guitar. I sold it on e-Bay for only $599, approximately my break-even point. It was worth a lot more than that, IMO. The buyer was totally delighted.

All that said, my favorite choice of the Guild acoustic/electric compromise models was the F-65CE.

FWIW.
